The Department of Defense (DoD) has established the External Certification Authority (ECA) program to support the issuance of DoD-approved certificates to industry partners and other external entities and organizations. Certificates issued under the ECA program provide the mechanism for entities to securely communicate with the DoD, authenticate to secure DoD information systems and for protection of confidential emailed communications.
DoD Approved
ECA certificates are required to access many online government websites and applications. Each government agency establishes guidelines pertaining to the "assurance level" that is required to access the agency system. IdenTrust has teamed with these agencies to document which DoD ECA certificates types are accepted and we have created a certificate wizard that will guide you through the process of selecting the correct certificate type based on your interactions with DoD agencies.
Document Signing
An Individual or Business certificate can also be used as a document signing certificate. Digital signing replaces wet ink signatures and creates non-repudiable, legally binding documents. Certificates stored in a hardware device are also accepted under the Adobe® Approved Trust List (AATL) program; making digital signing using Adobe® products a simple and secure process.
Email Security
Digital certificates can also be used to sign email communications, reassuring the recipient that the sender is actually you. Digital signing of emails and documents is the best way to ensure that digital media remains intact, protecting the overall integrity of the communication or document.
Website Security
IdenTrust offers ECA SSL certificates to secure your website. These certificates are approved by the DoD for use with government agency website.
