Comply with mandates for secure access to DoD information systems and protection of confidential emailed communications

The Department of Defense (DoD) has established the External Certification Authority (ECA) program to support the issuance of DoD-approved certificates to industry partners and other external entities and organizations.  Certificates issued under the ECA program provide the mechanism for entities to securely communicate with the DoD, authenticate to secure DoD information systems and for protection of confidential emailed communications.

DoD Approved

DoD ApprovedECA certificates are required to access many online government websites and applications.  Each government agency establishes guidelines pertaining to the "assurance level" that is required to access the agency system.  IdenTrust has teamed with these agencies to document which DoD ECA certificates types are accepted and we have created a certificate wizard that will guide you through the process of selecting the correct certificate type based on your interactions with DoD agencies.

Document Signing

Digital SigningAn Individual or Business certificate can also be used as a document signing certificate.  Digital signing replaces wet ink signatures and creates non-repudiable, legally binding documents.  Certificates stored in a hardware device are also accepted under the Adobe® Approved Trust List (AATL) program; making digital signing using Adobe® products a simple and secure process.

Email Security

Email SecurityDigital certificates can also be used to sign email communications, reassuring the recipient that the sender is actually you.  Digital signing of emails and documents is the best way to ensure that digital media remains intact, protecting the overall integrity of the communication or document.

The IdenTrust Difference

United States Department of Defense Seal

IdenTrust works directly with the DoD Program Office to make it as simple as possible for users to obtain the correct ECA certificate.  By establishing relationships with the application owners, we know exactly what type of ECA certificate the application requires.   Through our self-service model, IdenTrust enables individuals to order the appropriate ECA certificate with any required hardware (i.e., smart card or USB Token) and required middleware in a single process.

  • Organizations may purchase vouchers in larger quantities that can then be provided to individual employees.  This allows the organization to track costs, reduce credit card reimbursements to employees and track who is using ECA digital certificates.
  • Since hardware is shipped directly to the individual who is ordering the certificate, the organization does not need to maintain or track hardware inventory.  In addition, the additional cost of shipping smart cards or USB Tokens to users is eliminated.

To ensure that employees are able to seamlessly use their ECA certificate, IdenTrust provides world-class technical support at no extra cost!
