The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) began using PKI based digital signatures for two main reasons.
||To be in compliance with the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) requirements for Professional Engineers, Professional Structural Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors to sign and seal their work
||To allow UDOT employees to digitally sign and secure various documents
All plans submitted to UDOT for projects are required to be in PDF format and include a PKI based digital signature to sign and seal the document. The digital certificates can be purchased from IdenTrust, LLC using the link below. UDOT staff and any other entity or person can purchase digital certificates from IdenTrust. The cost of the certificate for UDOT staff will be covered by the UDOT through the users work area. All others will be responsible for purchasing their own certificates. UDOT is currently using Adobe Acrobat 9 (Pro and Std) as the signing solution to place the seal and digital signatures in the PDF file and to sign other documents and recommends others doing business with UDOT use the same Adobe Acrobat version for consistency and support.
