Medical Informatics Engineering (MIE) has partnered with IdenTrust to provide identity proofing and issuance of Digital Certificate Tokens used to digitally sign and electronically send prescriptions for controlled substances. IdenTrust will issue digital certificate tokens that can be used to digitally sign and electronically transmit prescriptions for controlled substances (EPCS). By providing required information to IdenTrust, physicians can complete identity proofing and establish two-factor authentication for two years. Physicians will receive a USB device that will generate a digital signature.
To obtain a USB Token, physicians must register with IdenTrust, and prove their identity.
Choosing Your Certificate
For EPCS Prescribing
Use the IGC Prescribing | Basic Assurance | Individual Identity | Software Storage | Mobile Authentication option as this option allows you to store your certificate in your browser. You are able to manage your EPCS Prescriber devices via your web browser without having to insert a HID USB token. Select this option after you press the BUY NOW button to access the Certificate Selection Wizard (unless you have been instructed to select another option).
For Identity-Proofing Only
If you will not be submitting EPCS-compliant prescriptions, or your EHR/EMR provides non-IdenTrust tokens, you can opt to purchase an IGC Prescribing | Basic Assurance | Individual Identity | Software Storage | Identity Proofing Only certificate that can be used for identity-proofing only. You may choose this certificate option when you choose BUY NOW to access the Certificate Selection Wizard.

In the case where hardware is issued, ONLY THE SUBSCRIBER OF THE CERTIFICATE SHOULD HAVE EXCLUSIVE USE OF THEIR TOKEN – In all cases, THE DIGITAL CERTIFICATE IS YOUR FORM OF IDENTIFICATION, SIMILAR TO YOUR PASSPORT OR DRIVER’S LICENSE. Under the IGC Certificate Policy, it is our responsibility as an Authorized Certification Authority to revoke the certificate in a case of hardware loss or disclosure or compromise of the private key or any certificate related password to anyone other than the subscriber.
