Intermediate Assurance digital certificates provide high-level private key and digital certificate protection. Intermediate Assurance digital certificates and private keys are stored in a hardware token (SmartCard or USB device) and protected by a strong password.
Features and Benefits
IdenTrust will issue Intermediate Assurance certificates to individuals who are identified and authenticated during online registration. IdenTrust also conducts third-party verification of the applicant's identity. After receiving an Intermediate Assurance certificate from IdenTrust, each subscriber must use reasonable efforts to protect the security of his or her private key, which can be stored on a Rainbow iKey USB token or a Datakey SignaSure Smart Card. These storage products are provided by IdenTrust and are included in the price of the certificate.
An Intermediate Assurance digital certificate may reasonably be relied upon for any purpose for which a Standard Assurance digital certificate may be relied upon. The recommended reliance limit for an Intermediate Assurance digital certificate is $10,000. Each applicant must indicate, at the time of registration, how he or she intends to protect the private key(s). A check box will be present on the registration page for indicating the type of private key protection that the applicant wishes to use. Then, the applicant will be given information on obtaining the appropriate hardware module at the time of registration.
