How do I create a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) in IIS 5/6?

|
To create your CSR, follow these steps:
- Open your 'Internet Services Manager' for IIS-5 or 'Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager' for IIS-6.
- Normally located in the 'Start' menu, under 'Programs' and 'Administrative Tools'.
- Select the computer and web site (host) that you wish to secure. Right mouse-click to select 'Properties'.
- Select the 'Directory Security' tab.
- Select 'Server Certificate' under 'Secure Communications'.
- Click 'Next' in the "Welcome to the Web Server Certificate Wizard" window.
- Select 'Create a new certificate', Click 'Next'.
- Select "Prepare the request now, but send it later".
- Provide a name for the certificate. This is for your records only, and will not have any effect on functionality.
- Select the bit length as 1024-bit.
- Enter the "Organization" and 'Organization Unit", these are your company name and department name, respectively. When finished, click 'Next'.
- The "Common Name" field should be the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or the web address for which you plan to use your IIS SSL Certificate (the area of your site you wish customers to connect to using SSL). Please do not include the "https://". When finished, click 'Next'.
- Fill in the rest of the necessary information as seems appropriate. Make sure to remember the filename chosen to save your CSR.
When you apply for your certificate using our online process, make sure you include the text of this file (this is your CSR) in its entirety into the appropriate section of the application form.
