How do I do a certificate replacement?

You need to do a certificate replacement if you have a valid certificate, but:

  • The certificate is no longer on your computer

  • It no longer works because the private key is corrupted or missing

  • You have forgotten the password to the private key

  • For more information about when you need a certificate replacement,

  • see: How do I know when I need to replace my digital certificate?

You can request a no-cost replacement by following these steps:

If the certificate is on your computer, but the certificate is no longer working, you will want to first remove that certificate:

Follow these steps to remove a certificate installed in Internet Explorer:

  • Open Internet Explorer

  • Click 'Tools' at the top of the window

  • Choose 'Internet Options'

  • Click the 'Content' tab

  • Click the 'Certificates' button

  • Select the certificate to remove, and click the 'Remove' button

  • Repeat as needed

Once removed, or if your certificate is not currently installed, proceed with the replacement process below:

  • Access the Certificate Management Center at https://secure.digsigtrust.com/tscmc

  • If a window appears asking you to choose a certificate, click the 'Cancel' button

  • Log in with your account number and account passphrase

  • In the section 'Manage Your Certificates', next to Valid Certificates, choose 'I would like to replace my certificate' from the drop-down list, and click Continue

  • On the following page, chose to generate a replacement certificate and click Next

  • Proceed through the retrieval process by following the on-screen instructions

Note: It is a good idea to write down the new activation code when you reach the page with the activation code and passphrase fields.

The first time you attempt to verify the replaced certificate, you will probably see a status screen saying we were unable to verify your certificate was downloaded successfully. This is normal. Simply follow the instructions on that page to successfully verify the replaced certificate.
