State of Washington Renews PKI and Authentication Contract with Digital Signature Trust for Identity Management Services
Expands successful digital certificate program and is positioning itself to meet new guidelines from the Federal government

The State of Washington has renewed its master contract for PKI and Identity Authentication with Identrus™ subsidiary, Digital Signature Trust (DST). DST has already developed a PKI-based identity management program for the State of Washington based on a contract from March 2000 and will continue to enhance that program under the renewed agreement.

"The State of Washington recognized the potential early on to create new efficiencies and offer beneficial government services online," said Stuart McKee, Washington's CIO. "Digital Signature Trust helped us to achieve this with a successful identity management program that uses digital certificates for secure government transactions. With over 30 applications in use in Washington today, we now are looking to DST to help us expand the program to provide more efficient, secure and convenient transaction-based services to the citizens of Washington state. We are pleased to leverage economies and expertise in the private sector to drastically reduce our time to market for mission-critical applications."

DST developed the State of Washington's PKI-based identity management program to enable the online authentication of state employees, individual citizens and businesses for transactions with the state. With digital certificates from DST, they can file documents online with legally binding digital signatures and gain online access to appropriate resources.

"The State of Washington is a strong example of how government can improve services with secure and trusted online options. As the first state to fully embrace digital certificates, Washington has introduced a growing number of highly accessible solutions that meet the diverse needs of its citizens," said Karen Wendel, Identrus CEO. "In fact, Washington is well positioned to meet new guidelines from the federal government to provide PKI-based identity management solutions."

DST is providing a range of services to support the State of Washington program. It acts as the Certificate Authority for the state, hosting all servers and equipment for the program. DST provides authentication for internal state government employees as well as businesses and state citizens. Other services include Web-based registration and retrieval of identity credentials, a roaming credential service and support of SSL certificates.
